The Diabetic Cat was inspired by Jasper, my fluffy orange cat who turned an unexpected diabetes diagnosis into a journey that changed the way I understand what diabetic-cat owners really need.
When Jasper was diagnosed with diabetes, my first reaction was almost disbelief.
I am diabetic myself. For one brief moment I actually thought, "I know diabetes. I can handle this."
Then reality set in.
Caring for a diabetic cat was very different from managing my own diabetes. There were new routines to learn, unfamiliar supplies, new things to watch, and the very real fear of doing something wrong with a cat I loved so much.
Giving Jasper insulin scared me.
I worried about hurting him. I worried about giving it incorrectly. I worried about forgetting whether I had already given it. I worried about what would happen if I made a mistake.
Suddenly there was so much to remember. Meals. Medication. Monitoring. Supplies. Appointments. Questions. Changes in behavior.
It was not just about understanding diabetes. It was about learning how to fit diabetes care into everyday life.
The things that felt overwhelming in the beginning gradually became more familiar.
Repetition turned unfamiliar tasks into things I knew how to prepare for and manage.
Written information, logs, prepared supplies, and clear routines made everyday care easier.
I did not wake up one day knowing everything. Confidence came gradually as Jasper and I learned together.
Today, Jasper is in diabetic remission, and I am incredibly grateful for where his journey has taken us.
His remission is an important part of his story, but it is not the reason I want people to come to this website.
I want people to come here because they need clear information, practical tools, reassurance, and support while learning how to care for their own cat.
Every diabetic cat is different. Remission is not guaranteed, and Jasper's experience should never be treated as a promise of what will happen for another cat.
Care decisions should always be guided by the veterinary team caring for the individual cat.
